Fencing Squad To Face Trinity

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Varsity fencers are favored in their match with Trinity College in Hartford, conn., at 4 p.m. this afternoon. The second team will enter the contest with a record of two wins and no losses.

"We're almost certain to win," according to Dave Johnson, who will fence foil. Other competitors in the foil will probably be Larry Johnson and Philippe Jurat.

Jon Piel, Alan Choate, and either Lajos Heder or Robert Whallon will fence sabre, while Bill Bennett, Dave MacDougall, and Jim Roberts will comprise the Crimson epee team.

Johnson explained that the fencing team operates in two distinct sections, sending the A-squad against Ivy League and New York teams and the B-squad against colleges which have a weaker fencing program.

The A-team will meet New York University Saturday at 2 p.m. in what "should prove to be an interesting match with the strongest intercollegiate team in the United States," Johnson said. The Crimson squad will be using an electric foil, which is wired with a buzzer and light to show when a touch is scored, for the first time in this competition
