"Success to date of the Radcliffe Development Fund has exceeded the most optimistic expectations," Robert I. Hunneman '28, National Chairman of the Fund, announced recently. The Fund, which aims for $10 million in ten years, has obtained over $5.4 million in less than five years.
In a recent report to parents and friends, Hunneman termed the recent increase of gifts to the Fund, "unprecented progress," and a certain indication of ultimate success. Even in the two "usually inactive" months of the summer, donations added $144,000, he explained.
New Scholarships Begun
The College is giving top priority in distribution of Fund money to strengthening endowment for student scholarships. Since the Fund began in 1955, 26 undergraduate, 6 graduate, and 12 memorial grants-in-aid scholarships have been established.
For the construction of the Loeb Drama Center and the Harvard-Radcliffe Health Center, Radcliffe has promised a total share of $500,000. Because of the Fund's recent progress, more than half of this amount is now in hand.
The entire amount needed to build three new cooperative houses has also been pledged. Architects will begin to submit drawings for the three buildings this fall, but the Administration is not expected to announce the buildings' locations for several weeks.
