'Cliffe Affiliations Stress Combined Tutorial, Dinners

A cultural extracurricular program will be the focus of the affiliation of Quincy House with Holmes Hall, John M. Bullitt '43, Master of Quincy House, said yesterday. But Winthrop House and Comstock Hall will use their affiliation largely as a basis for mixed tutorial, according to David E. Owen, Master of Winthrop House.

Small concentrators dinners are an important part of the Quincy-Holmes affiliation. The dinners will be held simultaneously at Quincy and Holmes so that two departments can meet each time. In this way, every field of concentration should have three or four dinners a year, Mrs. Daisy Newman, Head Resident of Holmes Hall, said.

Holmes will also combine with Quincy in the use of art and photographic studies, she said, and in addition to forming several small chamber groups, the houses hope to set up a Quincy-Holmes chorus.

Still another possibility that Quincy and Holmes are considering is to have Quincy tutors read informal papers at Holmes, but this plan is only tentative.

While mixed tutorial is the major part of the Winthrop-Comstock merger, Comstock girls will also be invited to join Winthrop's Economics table and Science Club, Donald R. Brown, Head Resident of Comstock Hall, said. In addition, a few girls may participate in Winthrop's thesis sessions, seminar-like groups in which Honors seniors give short lectures based on their thesis topics.
