HYDC Assails Oath; Votes' Cliffe Merger

The Harvard Young Democratic Club has passed a resolution condemning the loyalty oath and affidavit contained in the National Defense Education Act. The resolution carried with only scattered dissent, at the club's meeting last night.

Earlier yesterday, the New England Inter-Collegiate Young Democrats, a group composed of Democratic clubs from some 24 New England colleges and universities, including Harvard, had resolved to support the KennedyClark bill calling for removal of the loyalty oath provision of the NDEA.

With some dissenting votes, the HYDC also passed a motion for merger with the Radcliffe Young Democratic Club. The merger must be passed as a petition by two-thirds of the Club's membership to become a reality.

After much discussion, the group passed two motions. One supporting the candidacy of William S. Barnes, assistant Dean of the Law School, for membership on the Cambridge School Committee; and the other for reelection of Cambridge City Councillor Joseph A. DeGuglielmo'29.

Two freshmen were elected to represent their class on the HYDC Executive Committee.
