The Student Council committee to study the NDEA loyalty oath will probably report back to the Council on Monday, Lewis B. Oliver, Jr. '61, chairman of the committee, said last night. Although the group has already decided what its stand on the issue will be, Oliver said he felt it "inadvisable" to express any opinion before Monday.
The six-man committee was formed on Oct. 5 to make a thorough analysis of the NDEA loyalty to the Constitution requirement and to prepare a report for the Council and the nine faculties of the University.
According to Oliver, President Pusey has asked each of the faculties to submit an opinion of the oath, the consensus of which will determine the Administration's stand. "By sending our analysis to the individual faculties," Oliver explained, "we hope to influence their reports, as well as that of the combined Administration."
The implications of the oath are so complex, Oliver said, that a simple yes or no recommendation is impossible. Instead, each issue must be considered by itself.
One such issue is whether the NDEA, by giving money to divinity students, mixes church and state.
