Council Member Hits NSA Move

One of two Student Council representatives who voted against last Monday's decision to withdraw from the National Student Association charged yesterday that the Council has created a "false impression" concerning Harvard delegates' impressions of NSA conventions.

Chitranjan Kapur '60 stated that the three Student Council delegates to the 1957 NSA convention returned "very strongly in favor of Harvard's continued participation in the organization." He said that the Council acted "too fast," and urged that it take more time to "talk the problem over."

The reports that the Council has placed on agenda for Monday's meeting, Kapur added, "can wait." He pointed out that the Council must remember that it is spending the students' money in any activity it undertakes. The withdrawal from NSA, he stated, opposes a poll that constitutes the only recent expression of student opinion on the issue. He suggested a new referendum to determine current student sentiment about the College's status in NSA.
