Bomb Throwers Apprehended By Police Yesterday

Witnesses Report Pair Ran Into Iroquois Club Building

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Police have apprehended the vandals who threw a large firecracker or small bomb into "Elsie's" delicatessen Wednesday night, it was learned last night. Although the names of the culprits have not been released, they are apparently Harvard students, since the case is being handled by the Dean's office.

Witnesses of the incident told University Police that they saw two persons run across the street into the Iroquois Club after throwing the explosive into the luncheonette.

Although no one was seriously injured by the explosion, two persons were taken to Stillman with minor lacerations. Malcolm J. Arth, teaching fellow in Social Relations, and Emanuel A. Shegloff '58 had been sitting at the counter, and were cut by the force of the blast.

In a letter to the CRIMSON yesterday, Arth said that he concurred with the description of the bomb throwers as "vandals." "However, to me they were far worse than that because they were educated vandals. They were Harvard students," he wrote.
