The Crimson sailing team gained first place Monday in the qualifying race for the New England Intercollegiate Dinghy Sailing Championships which will be held May 10 and 11. The team scored 99 points in the competition to lead the field of seven.
Hanson Robbins and Tom Carper accounted for the 49 points gained in division A. In this category the sailors ended in a tie with Brown.
Completely outdistancing the field in Division B, Carlos Rodriguez and Jimmy Flug added another 50 points, the highest score of the day.
Brown ended the match slightly behind the Crimson, scoring 96 points. Bowdoin, by accumulating 82 points, also qualified for the championship competition next month. Failing to qualify were Amherst with 78, W.P.I. with 50, Maine with 29, and St. Michael's with 21.
Six more New England teams will be chosen in regattas to be held soon at Tufts and the Coast Guard Academy.
