Captain Pete Reider will lead seventeen members of the varsity track team in quests for gold medals in the annual Penn Relays at Philadelphia this afternoon.
Reider will compete in the two-mile against some of the best runners in the East. In other individual events Pat Liles and Henry Wente will enter the broad jump; Jim Doty and Dunc Johnson, the hammer; and Neil Muncaster, John deKiewiet, and Gus Moede, the discus.
In addition, two and possibly three Crimson runners will enter a special event, the 400 meter hurdles. Dave Rosenthal and Liles are definite entries, will Joel Landau a possibility.
In the relays, Al Gordon, French Anerson, Al Percy, and Lee Barnes will enter what is billed as the Heptagonal Mile Relay Championship, while one of this quartet plus Dave Brahms, Art Cahn, and Bill Thompson will run a medley relay. Brahms will run the 880 leg, while Cahn, who last week against Army ran a sterling 1:56.1 half-mile, will run the three-quarters. Thompson will run the mile leg.
