The lightweight crew celebrated its new status as a major sport with four resounding victories over M.I.T. on Saturday.

The big win was the varsity's three and one-half length triumph over the Tech boat. Rowing at 31 strokes a minute into a slight headwind the Crimson steadily picked up its lead over the M.I.T. shell rowing at 34 1/2. Closing with a sprint at 38, the varsity's time for the mile and five-sixteenths course was 7:24.0.

Strangely enough, the fastest speed was made by the second Freshman boat. Their time of 7:16.2 was aided by a tailwind which had shifted to the opposite direction when the varsity raced.

The J.V.'s rowed the course in 7:44.2 against very choppy water which caused their stroke to drop down to 28 for a period. They finished two and one-half lengths ahead of M.I.T. and one minute and fifteen seconds in front of an outclassed Brown varsity.
