A large portion of Kirkland House's Ford Foundation funds for this academic year will be used to finance a number of "small, student-faculty" dinners. They will be organized around the three large areas of study, rather than the various departments, according to Charles H. Taylor, Master of Kirkland House.
These seated dinners will commence "right away" and will begin with Honors Juniors from several departments within each of the three areas of Humanities, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences, Taylor stated. He expected that there would be about seven students, three House staff members, with an emphasis on the older associates, and one or two outside guests at each dinner. All the faculty members would come from different departments within an area.
"We are going to spend a considerable amount of our Ford money on small dinners because we think this will help develop one of the purposes of the Houses--namely, more student--faculty contact," Taylor said, adding that "this type of thing will help to encourage such contact."
In addition, Taylor plans to invite several outstanding guests to stay in the House. He also hopes to buy equipment for the House stage, to show motion pictures, possibly during the reading periods, and to furnish prizes for photography and painting exhibits.
