Rodents Abound As Yalies Visit

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Rodents abounded around the University last weekend. Friday night a number of enterprising undergraduates ran a Suffolk Downs-style mouse race in their living room. And Saturday afternoon Yalies let loose several lethargic rats on the playing field, at least one of which was not retrieved.

Officials of the Harvard mouse-race said the exhibition Saturday almost "sent them home to check their stable."

The race was engineered by using long boards for run-ways, a hearth for the finish line, and bits of cheese as lures for the anxious mice.

The lights were turned off, except for a spotlight on the mantle which illuminated the runways.

Bets were taken from all over the University, by phone or in person, and odds posted on the wall. Once the cardboard gates were opened, the hungry mice ran for their prize, while hungry betters cheered for their chosen redent.

"The object wasn't to make money," an official commented. "It was just a party game. We got the idea from a movie in Boston."
