The Combined Charities will hold its annual fund-raising drive during the week of Dec. 5, Chairman David F. Hurwitt '60 announced yesterday.
According to Hurwitt, the drive has set a goal of $12,000, approximately 50 per cent more than the total of $8,284.96 collected last year. Hurwitt pointed out that a similar collection at Yale last year netted almost $40,000, although that figure included faculty contributions as well.
Students may designate their gifts for specific charities. The Student Council will distribute unspecified funds among suggested and recommended charities after the drive is completed.
This year's list of recommended charities includes PBH, the United Fund, Salzburg Seminar, the American Friends Service Committee, and the emergency fund for the University Band. The funds given to the Band will replace music damaged in the fire, Hurwitt explained.
Brochures describing the recommended charities and listing suggested charities will be distributed Sunday night prior to the drive's opening. Entry solicitors will take pledges between 10 p.m. and 12 p.m. each evening during the week.
Hurwitt explained that the proposed goal could be reached by a three dollar contribution from each student with 100 per cent donation.
