Mumford Attacks Military Policies

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Lewis Mumford, professor of Humanities at M.I.T., told the Harvard World Federalists last night that "our stupid military policy of massive retaliation might better be termed wholesale extermination."

Attacking the Administration's foreign aid program, which is said had gained us "few friends and many enemies," Mumford called for a world-wide graduated income tax. Under this plan, the wealthy nations, led by the U.S., would support a large-scale, coordinated foreign aid program.

The Communists, he claimed, will never take over a well-fed and happy people. "Economically strong countries are our best bulwark against Communist aggression" he said.
