Flynn Discloses Two Plagarisms Of PBH Works

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The Graduate Student Council and Terry A. Regan, a Cambridge advertising woman, might have violated the copyrights of two Phillips Brooks House publications, Gerrish C. Flynn '59, Treasurer of PBH, revealed yesterday.

The cover of "Around the Square," an advertising pamphlet edited by Miss Regan, contains a section of the copyrighted PBH map.

Flynn said that although Miss Regan was given permission to use a six inch portion of the map, this permission specifically excluded the use of any University buildings in the map.

"I Am Blind.."

Miss Regan claimed that she obtain blanket permission to reproduce a six inch square of the map, including the buildings in question. She said that "since I am blind, I have no idea of what is on this map except that it is of the Harvard Square area."

Flynn commented that "we don't really care whether she did misuse the permission or not," because no harm was done to PBH. He did not forsee any action, legal or otherwise, against Miss Regan in the future.

The second violation involves the Graduate Student Council's "Informal Guide to Cambridge," in which portions of the Harvard Handbook--especially in the entertainment section--have appeared during the past three years.

Flynn sent the GSC a letter which stated: "It has been called to my attention that large sections of the 1958 "Informal Guide to Cambridge" are identical in wording to passages of the Harvard Handbook..."No reply to this letter has as yet been received.

Flynn believes that PBH will not take any action beyond advising the GSC not to reprint material from its publications next year.
