New Committee Will Encourage Teaching Career

The faculty's Standing Committee on Teaching as a Career will open an office in the near future for the purpose of encouraging and helping Harvard and Radcliffe students to enter the teaching profession.

The committee, formally appointed only two weeks ago, arose from the faculty's concern over the shortage of teachers in the face of rising student enrollments throughout the country.

According to its chairman, Mason Hammond '25, Pope Professor of Latin Language and Literature, the committee's functions are broadly defined, and it will "swim around in all directions," studying ways by which the University can interest its students in teaching careers.

The committee plans to publicize teaching opportunities through speakers in the various Houses and at career seminars in the spring.
