Group Fails to Decide On Exodus from Houses

No decision on whether to allow members of the Class of 1959 to live outside the Houses came from yesterday's meeting of Masters with Dean Watson.

Watson said that the Masters were given the questionnaires submitted from their Houses and a statistical compilation of the class-wide results. He said that the Masters would now want to study the statistics and to talk with those persons who desire to live in private accommodations.

The Dean refused, however, to make public the results of the poll, which more than two-thirds of the present junior class answered. He stated that the statistics were considered "quite confidential."

If any decision is reached to allow students to live outside the Houses, it would necessarily be made within the next few weeks. Reassignment cards for rooms in the Houses customarily go out on Feb. 1, and both students and Masters would need to know of any housing changes shortly after that date.

Meeting With Bundy

Watson said yesterday that he expected the Masters to meet again as soon as Dean Bundy comes back to the University. Bundy is currently vacationing in Antigua, B.W.I. After a brief return to Cambridge next week, he will be in California on business until Jan. 31.

The Masters will probably meet with Bundy on that day, or on the following Monday, Feb. 3. A decision would have to be made at that time, Watson stated.

The questionnaire revealed a "lot of valuable information" on student attitudes toward the Houses system, Watson said. This was the first time that the University has sought such information.
