Visiting Italian Will Give New Courses

A well-known Italian historian will be a visiting lecturer at the University next semester, Myron P. Gilmore, chairman of the History Department, announced yesterday.

Georgio Spini, professor at the University of Messina in Sicily will lecture in History 152a, the History of the Italian Risorgimento, and History 252, a graduate seminar on the same subject. The courses will cover the rise of the Italian state from the Sixteenth Century to the mid-Nineteenth Century.

While at the University, Spini will occupy the Lauro de Vosis Lectureship in the History of Italian Civilization. In addition to his interest in Italian history, he also specializes in the history of the United States during the Nineteenth Century.

The professor has written five books, including "American Democracy from Jefferson to Jackson."
