Robert B. Watson will be Acting Dean of the College this fall during the absence of Dean Leighton, who is on sabbatical leave.
Watson has been Associate Dean since 1946. He has worked primarily with the affairs of extra-curricular activities which require Dean's Office attention.
During Watson's absence as Associate Dean, John A. Ballard will take over the duties, as Assistant Dean. Since 1955, Ballard has been a research fellow in the Defense Studies program.
A graduate of Dartmouth College and the Harvard Law School, Ballard has been enrolled at the Graduate School of Public Administration since 1955. He is 26 years old.
Watson has occupied the Associate Dean's office since he returned to the University in 1946. Before World War II, he was associated with J.P. Morgan, Inc. He entered the Navy as an Ensign in 1940 and left the service as a Commander.
Leighton became Dean of the College in 1952. Before that, he had served as Assistant Dean from 1922 to 1926, and as Dean of Freshmen from 1931 to 1952. He was also an instructor in Economics from 1926 to 1952.
