New Off-Campus Dorms at 'Cliffe House 46 Girls

In an effort to ease its housing shortage, Radcliffe leased two additional off-campus houses over the summer to provide rooms for 46 more students this year.

A newly-acquired house at 1653 Massachusetts Ave. has 24 undergraduate residents, while another at 61 Oxford St. houses 22 girls.

With two single rooms and the rest doubles, 1653 Mass. Ave. houses one senior, four juniors, and 19 sophomores. Its head resident, Miss Janet Ferguson '56, is in her first year at the Radcliffe Graduate School after studying for a year in Germany.

The Oxford St. house has five single rooms, one triple, and seven doubles. Two of its residents are seniors, nine are juniors and 11 are sophomores. Miss Uta Merzbach, head resident, is also a Radcliffe graduate student, in her second year.

Even with the two new houses, Radcliffe is unable to give a room to every student who requests college housing. It is expected that this situation will be corrected with the opening of Comstock Hall, now under construction behind Moors Hall.
