The Brooklyn Dodgers and the Pittsburgh Pirates won last night, as Johnny Podres hurled a three-hitter, shutting out Philadelphia 4 to 0, while the Pirates squeezed out the Giants, 6 to 5.

Podres's pitching enabled the Dodgers to save one game of their four-game series at Connie Mack Stadium. After four scoreless innings, the Dodgers finally brought home one run in the fifth and seventh frames, and two in the ninth.

At Pittsburgh, the Pirates collected 11 hits off five pitchers in the rubber game of a five-game series.
