What should have been one of the easier games on the varsity lacrosse schedule has been turned into a close and unpredictable contest by the loss of three key Crimson players. Dick MacKinnon, Tom Crump, and Jerry Cotter will all be out of the lineup when the varsity faces Tufts at Medford this afternoon.
The loss of MacKinnon may be the most serious of the three, since he is the only goalie on the squad with game experience. Chris Stone, who will fill in for the ailing MacKinnon, is more or less an unknown quantity.
Crump, one of the mainstays of the Crimson defense, suffered a serious knee injury in last Saturday's game at Princeton and may be out for the rest of the season. He will be replaced by Bob Fallon, who played well in taking over for Crump on Saturday.
A dislocated shoulder put Cotter out of action in the Princeton contest; he will not be ready to return at least until this Saturday's game against Dartmouth. His loss may well hamper the Crimson attack, since Cotter had been one of the main feeders for crease man Mike Shaw.
Shaw will be the only physically sound man on the starting attack lineup; both Dub Mallonee and Dick Pille are still limping from previous injuries. Captain Mac Hyde, Jim Gale, and Tim Draper will open at midfield, with Fallon, Jim Herscot, and John Baldwin at defense.
