Three Assistants Appointed to Aid New Head Coach

Athletic Director Thomas D. Bolles yesterday announced the appointment of three assistant football coaches to aid new head coach John Yovicsin.

Offensive line coach Ted Schmitt, now in his eighth year at the University, is the only hold-over who will work with the varsity next season.

James S. Lentz, an assistant to Yovicsin at Gettysburg last year, will be defensive line coach. At Gettsburg, Lentz coached lacrosse and swimming.

Named to assist Yovicsin as backfield coach was Roger I. Robinson. He coached football and track at Port Jervis (N.Y.), High School, and is a former Syracuse star. Robinson will plan the backfield's new T-formation attack.

F. Alex Bell, head coach of football at Delone High School in McSherrystown, Pa., will be end coach for the '57 squad. Because of the graduation of this season's varsity ends, Bell's job will be among the most difficult on the staff. The ends are expected to be the weakest position on the varsity.

The new coaches will meet in Cambridge during the first week in June, and plan to work together through the summer. They will learn Yovicsin's system of play, and study the potentials of the Crimson varsity and its opponents.

In other major staff changes, Henry N. Lamar, currently a junior varsity coach, will become head coach of the freshman eleven.
