Undefeated Tennis Team Will Face Lions, Tigers in Weekend Matches

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

With hopes of an undefeated season coming closer and closer to realization, the varsity tennis team, led from the number one singles position by Dale Junta, will play Columbia this afternoon in New York and then travel to Princeton to play an all-important match with the Tigers.

The Crimson team has run through fifteen matches without tasting defeat. The string should be extended to sixteen straight before the Princeton match, as Columbia has been something less than proficient on the courts this year. However, at Princeton tomorrow afternoon, the situation will be different.

The Tigers will oppose the Crimson with a perennially strong aggregation. Led by juniors Jim Farrin and Jeff Arnold, they dropped a close 6-3 contest to Presbyterian College just before the South Carolina team bowed to the Crimson, but in other matches the Princeton team has shown that it is a very capable outfit.

On the tenuous basis of comparative scores, Harvard will have to enter the match in the role of favorite. This is particularly unfortunate because the Big Three contests are usually potential upsets. These crystallize more often when one team is put in the role of underdog. Last year the Crimson was given slight chance to defeat the Tigers, but defeated them for the first time in many years.

Possibilities of Upset

There is a distinct possibility that the same thing might happen on Saturday, especially since Princeton's team certainly approaches the Crimson in overall ability. Also, the fact that Princeton, Yale and Harvard all have, statistically speaking, equal chance of taking the Ivy and Big Three titles means that the match will be extremely hard fought. Moreover, both teams are at full strength.

The varsity will use the same lineup that has carried it through the season
