Hermon D. Smith '21, of Lake Forest, Ill., and president of the Chicago insurance firm of Marsh and McLennan, has been elected president of the Harvard Alumni Association for the coming year.
Serving under Smith will be four vice-presidents: David W. Peck, LLB. '25 of New York, presiding justice of the New York Supreme Court; William W. Mein, Jr. '32 of San Francisco, a financier; and Richard H. Amberg '33 of St. Louis, publisher of the St. Louis Globe-Democrat.
In addition to his insurance post, Smith also holds the presidencies of the Chicago Community Fund, the Lake Forest Public Library, and the Chicago Historical Society.
He has written extensively about Henry Dearborn, the early American general, and about the history of the Chicago area.
