Harvard Still On Track To Reach Fossil Fuel-Neutral Status by 2026, Sustainability Report Finds
Wins in two events were not enough for the varsity fencing squad Saturday, as it dropped its third Ivy match to Columbia, 14 to 13. The Crimson won, 5 to 4, in foil and epee, but a 3-6 loss in sabre gave the Lions their fourth straight Ivy win.
After taking the first round, 5 to 4, the varsity won another, but Columbia picked up eight straight to bring the score to 13 to 6. Three matches later the Lions took the deciding bout, in foil, and the Crimson won the last five.
In foil, Peter Boyce and Mike Klapper won two of three each, fencing with customary consistence. Captain Hubert Hocutt looked better than usual, but was able to win only one bout.
The sabre division, which failed to match the solid performance of the other teams, was able to win only three bouts. Mitch Thomas won two of three, while Doug Runnels won only once. Dave Silbert had a very bad day, and lost all three.
In epee, Doug Fitchen and Bob Scrivner each won twice. Bill Chapple, retaining the spark he found against N.Y.U., won one.
