Grays Tops Straus South to Win Freshman Intramural Swim Title

Grays Hall edged Straus South and Matthews South in the finals of the freshman intramural swimming meet last night. Grays, with 32 points, topped a pack of 11 teams competing at the I.A.B. pool.

Matthews South overwhelmed Lionel to capture the volleyball crown in the National League. The win over Lionel was a replay of a contested game and gave Matthews an 8-0 record for the season. It will face Matthews North, the leader of the American League, in a playoff for the intramural championship this afternoon at Hemenway.

In squash yesterday, Ed Vaughan defeated Bill Rapp, and Dick Chute beat Ben Neilson. Finals are slated for a date after the vacation.

Thayer Middle copped the intramural boxing crown, scoring 15 points to 11 for runner-up Weld North. Matthews North captured 10 to take third place.

The hockey team of Straus South blanked the rest of the league, compiling an 8-0 record during season play. Limower, a team which included players from both Lionel and Mower, was second with six wins and two defeats. The Nationals captured third place, taking five and dropping three.

In wrestling, Lionel copped its lone league championship, amassing 40 points to defeat Mower, which collected 33. Straus South, one of the major powers of the American League in all sports, took third with 29 points.

Thayer Middle took first place in freshman fencing competition with 44 points. Weld North and Holworthy were runners-up in the ten-team race.
