The University of Pennsylvania has announced a $200 raise in tuition effective next September. The change will bring tuition for full-time students up to $1,000, paralleling similar increases at Harvard, Yale and Princeton.

The raise affects nine of Penn's 12 undergraduate schools, including the Wharton Schools. Gaylord P. Harnwell, Penn's president, estimated that the increase will mean $900,000 more annual income. The money will be used for faculty salaries, scholarships and maintenance.
