Fencers Lose, 21-6; Lions' Match Today

A carload of Errol Flynns would not have helped the varsity fencing team last night as it flunked its most difficult test of the year, 21 to 6, against undefeated N.Y.U. The Violet, with five southpaws, completely outfenced the Crimson despite a very strong performance by the locals. If the varsity fences as well tonight against Columbia, it should be able to pick up a win and round out its Ivy record to 2 and 2.

In foil, Mike Klapper won the only bout (over N.Y.U.'s top man) as the Crimson dropped the event, 8 to 1. Peter Boyce was a victim of nausea during his first two losses, and Dick Johnson replaced him in the third round. Captain Hubert Hocutt was winless.

Dave Silbert was the only winner in sabre, with two victories, as the varsity lost, 7 to 2. Doug Runnels lost three, while Mitch Thomas lost two and Don Tingle, in replacement, lost one.

The big news in epee was Bill Chapple's first win of the season. Doug Fitchen won two, Bob Scrivner lost two, and Bruce Parker lost one as the division was defeated 6 to 3.
