Lacking a winning record for the first time this season, Harvard's five will seek to break a four game losing streak tonight when it travels to Amherst to play the Lord Jeffs.
All four of the consecutive defeats have come at the hands of league opponents. Although Amherst is not a member of the Ivy League, it still should prove tough competition. One year ago, the Lord Jeffs compiled a 16 and 6 record, after an opening game loss to Harvard. Thereafter it soundly trounced the Crimson by 30 points.
This season the Little Three defending champions have run up another commendable mark, with 9 wins in 12 games. Some of the teams the Lord Jeffs have vanquished include Army, M.I.T., and Holy Cross.
Amherst is paced by a tall, versatile Bill Warren. He has scored at a 23.6 average while alternating between the center and forward positions with Lee Lindeman. Captain Dick Anderson plays the other forward, while Phil Hastings and Kif Knight are at the guards.
Tonight's game will be the exact middle point of the Crimson's schedule, the eleventh of 21 games. A victory would give the team a good chance of bettering last year's miserable 8-16 record.
The same starting lineup will begin tonight, with Canty, Muncaster, Woolston, Hastings, and Hurley forming the first team. But Coach Wilson in recent games has shown a tendency to substitute liberally, and the second team should play a good portion of the game.
Against Brown and Columbia in its two most recent contests, the Crimson first blew a game and then was outplayed by a much superior aggregation. Amherst will pose the problem of a spirited well-coordinated small college team without the ability of Columbia.
