Varsity Relay Team Takes B.A.A. Relay From Yale Saturday

With the Garden band's Old Howard music spurring it on, the varsity mile relay team established its superiority over Yale beyond a shadow of a doubt in the B.A.A. Meet Saturday night. It romped in 20 yards ahead of Dartmouth, and nearly a half-lap ahead of Yale in a creditable 3:21.9.

Mike Robertson, leading off from lane two, moved ahead at the end of the first half-lap, maintained a two-yard lead over Yale's Ed Holahan, until just before the handoff, when he increased it to six.

Yale's Bob Skerritt moved up on Jim Cairns, the number two man, but Cairns held him off, giving Bill Morris a five-yard advantage.

Morris added another two yards, maintaining this lead for two laps. In his last lap, Morris unleashed a tremendous sprint which brought him in 15 ahead.

Anchorman Dick Wharton coasted in 20-yards ahead of Dartmouth's Doug Brew, who had just won the Bill Bingham 880.

Dave Norris, Dave Spinney, Bill Thompson, and Pete Reider could not match their Yale counterparts, finishing a half-lap behind the Elis, who beat B.U. by about ten yards. Pinceton finished third, 30 yards ahead of the Crimson.

Dick Wharton and A1 Bordon each finished third in their heats in the Jack Ryder 440, neither placed, as the winner, based on times, was Bill Merritt of Holy Cross, who broke the record held by former Crimson star Dave Alpers. Skerritt placed second for Yale.
