Annex Group Plans Biographical Work

A Radcliffe group will sponsor preparation of an historical cyclopedia of American women if necessary funds can be secured. The two-volume work would supplement the Dictionary of American Biography.

About $160,000 will be required to finance the five-year project, according to Arthur M. Schlesinger, Francis Lee Higginson Professor of History, Emeritus, chairman of the Advisory Board of the Women's Archives.

"Every effort will be made to maintain the same scholarly character as the DAB," Schlesinger said. Preliminary research by the Radcliffe group indicates that at least twice as many biographies should be available as are now included in the DAB. New information and additional biographies would be included.
