Rifle Team to Defend Championship Today

The varsity rifle team will defend its Ivy League championship today at Yale. The same targets will be used to decide a New England College Rifle League meet against Brown. Captain Dick Lipman speculated. "It's possible we'll win although Yale and Cornell have strong teams."

The team has a 4-3 record this year despite being forced to compete in matches with only 8, 7, or 6 men. In match shooting a team is allowed to count the 5 best scores of up to 10 participants.

The team opened the season by scoring 1404 in an easy win over Worcester. This score is within two points of the Harvard varsity record. Since then the team has had varying fortunes beating Boston College, Rhode Island, and Trinity but losing to Boston University, University of Connecticut, and Providence College.

Last weekend the team participated at the Coast Guard Academy in the largest shoulder to shoulder intercollegiate meet that has taken place so far. An unofficial score of 1375 placed the team eight among 15 competitors.
