Heckscher Reaches Quarters of National Squash Championship

Ben Heckscher, playing some of the best squash of his career, moved into the quarterfinal round of the national amateur squash championships in New York, yesterday. In his first match, the Crimson captain defeated Joe Talbot, 15-5, 15-4, and 15-5, and then proceeded to move into the round of eight with a convincing win over Ed Hahn.

Hahn, a two time national champion, could not match the speed and power of his young opponent, losing in three games, 15-9, 18-15, and 15-9.

In the team championship, the Crimson did not fare so well, dropping out in the first round to the Philadelphia team, Cal Place lost a tight 3-2 match by one point in the fifth game, Larry Sears sprained his ankle in the first game and had to default, Charlie Hamm dropped a 3-2 match, Charlie MacVeagh bowed 3-1, and Henry Cortesi lost 3 to 0.

In the National Amateur Indoor Championships at New York, Dale Junta, first man on Coach Jack Barnaby's tennis team, won a long three-set match from Les Dodson in the first round, before bowing to Eddie Moylan, 6-4, 11-9, in the second. Moylan is one of America's top-ranked players.
