Crimson Skiing Team Departs for Middlebury Winter Carnival Events

The Crimson ski team has left for the Middlebury Winter Carnival with expectations of bettering the poor showing it made at Dartmouth last weekend.

Although the Nordic squad will be weakened by the absence of Captain Joe Poindexter, the team is in better condition than last week. However, Middlebury presents the challenge of a 55 meter ski jump, the longest at all the winter carnivals.

Poindexter pointed out that the Dartmouth Carnival meet showing was surprising "because of the large number of good teams." He explained that the meet is usually a contest between Dartmouth and Middlebury.

Middlebury ended one place away from the cellar in this year's final results, just behind the ninth place Crimson team. Dartmouth was first.

But the Middlebury skiers will be a tougher team to beat than last week's final results indicate. They took second place in the downhill, slalom, and Alpine events, but made a very poor showing in the Nordics when two members of the team broke their skis.
