18-9 Win Over M.I.T.; Epee Division Strong

The varsity fencing team rolled up an impressive 18-9 win over M.I.T. last night, in spite of two last-minute changes in the starting lineup. Both Mike Woolf and Don Tingle fell ill barely an hour before the match, but coach Edo Marion's substitutes managed to save the sabre, 5 to 4.

Manuel Cabral matched his fine performance against B.U. last week with three successive wins in foil. Bill Trebilcock, from the "A" squad, won two of three, while Dick Johnson split two bouts. Bassetti, fencing for Johnson, won his only contest.

The Crimson indicated surprising strength in epee, where Marion is considering moving some "B" fencers to the "A" team for Saturday's Cornell match. Tony Enders, who may start against the Big Red, fenced very well as he took three of three. Bruce Parker also looked good winning two of three. After Dave Schwartz split two bouts, Bob Scrivner won in replacement.

With two scheduled starters out of the sabre, Marion was hard-pressed to find replacements. But Doug Runnels of the "A" team fenced very well as he won all three.

Although the Cornell match had looked somewhat foreboding, the strong showing in epee has changed the picture, since this is where the Big Red is strongest.
