Harvard Students To Vote on Divestment From Israel in Inaugural HUA Election Survey
Last night, the Student Council, which supervises the Permanent Class Committee elections, voted to permit candidates to run in either the Class or the House elections. In the past, participation in both elections has been required of all those seeking a position either as Marshal or as House representative on the Committee.
This newly instigated system will permit those popular only in their own House to escape the ignominy of losing in the class-wide election. The Council moved up the date of the election to the first week in March.
The Council also voted to disband the Town-Gown Relationships Committee. One of the reasons given was that due to the complexity of sociology, the exploration of such problems should be left to better qualified agencies, such as P.B.H. and the Social Relations Department.
A resolution commending the raising of a scholarship for a Hungarian student by Kirkland House was unanimously passed. Also approved were the constitutions for the Harvard Union Freedom Council and, with reservations, that of the Harvard Society for Minority Rights.
