Quintet Routs Middlebury

Monk Muncaster and company rolled over Middlebury's basketball team here Saturday night, 84-57, to give the Crimson its third victory in three games.

Muncaster, a 6 ft. 3 in. senior forward, kept the varsity in the lead by a narrow margin during the first quarter of the game. As his teammates began to score, the Crimson steadily widened its lead. Muncaster retained his marksman's eye throughout, scoring 24 points.

The varsity hit on 42 per cent of its field goal attempts, and its zone defense held Middlebury to less than 30 per cent. The visitors took only 36 rebounds, while the taller Crimson squad grabbed 66.

George Harrington, the 5 ft. 7 in. guard who played a major role in revitalizing the Crimson squad when he became a starter late last season, scored 16 points, but hit on only 30 per cent of his shots. Muncaster completed nearly 60 per cent of his attempts.

Free throw accuracy plus a couple of timely field goals gave the Crimson captain, forward Dick Woolston, 11 points. He completed seven of eight field goal attempts. Bryant Danner, the team's 6 ft. 4 in. center, scored ten points, but made his major contribution under the boards, where he took 21 rebounds, nearly two-thirds the opposing team's total.

Bob Repetto, 6 ft. 1 in. sophomore guard, added seven points to the team's total. Coach Floyd Wilson frequently drew upon his reserves, and Griff McClellan and Chuck Wolle scored six points each. Mike Donohue also entered the scoring column with four points.

Peter Coe, a Middlebury reserve guard, led his team's scoring with 14 points. He was followed by the co-captain, Hugh Greer, who made 13. Another reserve, Howard Wiley, scored ten points, followed by starting center Charles Rand with nine.

Muncaster scored the first basket of the game, and made nearly all the Crimson field goals during the first 15 minutes. The Middlebury squad fouled frequently and only free throw accuracy kept the Crimson in front.

The varsity continued to build up its lead, even after Coach Wilson took Muncaster out for a rest. The halftime score was 42-34.

Freshmen Beat JV's

In the preliminary event, the freshmen, coached by Bruce Monro, overcame the junior varsity 68 to 52. Bob Bowditch was high scorer for the winning squad with 30 points. He sank 13 from the court and four from the free throw line.
