Crew Officials Show No Immediate Anxiety About River Proposal

H.A.A. spokesmen expressed no immediate concern over the Cambridge City Council's recent approval of a plan to fill in a portion of the Charles River for industrial purposes.

"I'm not really sure how serious this is," Thomas D. Bolles, Director of Athletics, said. He admitted, however, that a 39-acre industrial center "would definitely put an end to the crew's mile and three-quarter race and would leave room for only short workouts."

Awaits Final Enactment

Bolles and heavyweight crew coach Harvey Love agreed that if carried to completion the project would have a serious effect on crew at Harvard.

The multi-million dollar proposal, introduced to the City Council by realtor John Sullivan, calls for the construction of a 39-acre industrial center on the water area to the northeast of M.I.T. The Council approved the second reading of the petition last Monday, and it now awaits final enactment scheduled for Dec. 16.
