8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports
The Harvard Society for Minority Rights has withdrawn sponsorship of David Wang's proposed visit here, but the Harvard Liberal Union last night was still seeking an opponent to debate the Chinese-American segregationist.
John M. Syngg '59, president of the Minority Rights Society, stated that his club was unable to get someone from either the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People or the American Civil Liberties Union to debate with Wang.
The Liberal Union, however, is trying to obtain an unnamed individual to share the platform with Wang. If this is unsuccessful, they will nevertheless invite him to present his views and then throw the program open to questions, according to Herbert E. Milstein '58, president.
Speaking about the ACLU, Milstein said that "they didn't actually feel Wang was worth debating." Milstein emphasized that his club "obviously doesn't support Wang's views," but felt that the segregationist was entitled to state them.
