Army Plan Requires Only 3 Months' Duty For Vital Personnel

Science and mathematics teachers and persons vital to defense industries can fulfill their duty in the armed services in three months under a new policy recently announced by the Department of the Army.

Those eligible for the new program are males between the ages of 17 and 26 possessing skills deemed "critical" by the army and who are employed at their skill when enlisting.

A man enlisting for the three months' training in either the reserve or the National Guard would then go directly into the stand-by reserve.

Currently, a man can enlist for a six month period of active duty, followed by five and one half years in the ready reserve. Those with "critical skills" will not be required to fulfill these duties.
