Rifle Team Sets Mark In Win Over Bowdoin

The Crimson rifle team broke a six-year old record Saturday in its defeat of Bowdoin College here. The team scored 1411 out of 1500 points, five points better than the old mark.

The victory was a team rather than individual effort, with the spread between the first and last qualifier being only eight points. Junior Bill Garrison and sophomore Dick Murphy led the Crimson with 285 out of a possible 300 points.

Captain Lance Fair and sophomore Ron Simon followed with 282's. Another sophomore, John Phelps, rounded out the qualifiers with a 277.

Two other team members scored 276 and 274, good enough to qualify in any Varsity match in the last few years. But the high scores of this meet prevented them from qualifying. This depth should make the Crimson leading contenders for the Ivy League Title and a darkhorse in the New England Rifle League.
