The Masters of three Houses, Adams, Kirkland, and Lowell, have announced how they will use their Ford Foundation grants.
Charles H. Taylor, Master of Kirkland House, reported that his House will sponsor movies dealing with figures in the history of painting, and publish a literary annual including works submitted for various school prizes and tutorial themes.
The House will also present a forum on American jazz, with a panel discussion, and a live performance of a jazz group. Taylor also hopes to have some non-resident visitors.
Elliott Perkins '25, Master of Lowell House, said that his House will give about 30 dinners with its Ford money. Four tutors will each invite two students to a dinner, held in the Senior Common Room. No undergraduate will be asked more than once.
Perkins said that he is considering asking several "interesting people from the outside" to reside in the House. He is considering, with administration approval, creating a "Ford prize for those people in the House who are not sponsored by the University for various other grants and prizes, but whom the House faculty feels deserve an honor."
Reuben A. Brower, Master of Adams House, announced that several more distinguished persons, besides Robert Frost, have agreed to be resident visitors.
William Hawthorne, the Professor of Engineering of Cambridge University, will visit in January. Nadia Boulanger, Paris music instructor; Marion Moore, poetess; Joan Bennet, literary critic, and H.S. Bennett, medieval historian, will reside in Adams in the spring.
