Groundbreaking ceremonies for the Cambridge Electron Accelerator, a joint project of the University and M.I.T., will take place at 4 p.m. today at the construction site near the University museum.

The accelerator will produce the fastest electron particles in the world. Construction costs will approximate $6.5 million, and completion is scheduled for January 1960.
