Four Men Beat, Kick Leverett House Tutor, Leave Him in Street

Four unidentified youths assaulted Paul R. Baker, tutor in History, on Plympton Street last night at 9:55 p.m.

Baker was walking back to Leverett House, of which he is a resident. He had passed the quartet, standing on the corner of Mount Auburn Street, seconds before. No words were exchanged at that time.

As Baker approached the Psychological Clinic, he heard steps behind him. Before he could turn, however, one of the men grabbed him from the rear and threw him to the pavement.

The four then wordlessly kicked him in the head and chest for about thirty seconds before running off. They did not rob him. Barker managed to make his way to Leverett, from where he was taken to Stillman Infirmary.

Doctors there required three stitches to close a cut under his right eye, but released him after treating the wound and numerous other bruises.

Baker, who had little chance to observe his assailants, estimated them all to be about 20 years old.
