University to Receive New Dorm Space

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The University will be given an apartment building for use as a freshman dormitory, it was disclosed yesterday.

The building, located at the corner of Harvard and Ware Sts., near Hurlbut Hall, is approximately the size of Hurlbut, which now accommodates about 50 freshmen.

It is uncertain when the University will convert the apartment building to dormitory use, but it is understood that formal arrangements to transfer the properly will be completed in the near future.

Commuter Situation

Dean von State stated that the addition of any new buildings would be especially effective in relieving the situation faced by forced commuters. There are now about 106 freshmen living in the Boston area who desire rooms at the College.

Von State said that there are "100 too many freshmen" already residing in the Yard beside forced commuters.

Much of the crowding will be reduced when upperclassmen and University offices leave Wigglesworth, Weld, and Grays.
