The Harvard Liberal Union will join with the Society for Minority Rights to invite segregationist David Wang to speak "sometime before Christmas vacation," president Herbert E. Milstein '58 announced yesterday.
"Our invitation was based on the idea that a liberal society should allow free discussion," Milstein noted. Tentative plans for Wang's visit include a "debate" with a person favoring integration, possibly a representative of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
Wang, however, has protested the general view of him as a "Negro hater." In a letter to the CRIMSON, Wang, a Chinese-American northerner, calls himself "not anti-Negro" and says he "loves the Negroes as his brothers."
He contradicts this statement later in his letter, however, by noting, "I am in sympathy with White Citizens' Councils." His avowed purpose is "to promote segregation among serious-thinking students," and he calls John Kasper, ardent racial agitator, "a great American patriot."
His hate for Zionists, Wang affirms, is very intense, and he calls them a "fanatical Jewish nationalist group devoted to promoting the special interest of Israel at the cost of destroying the United States." He also opposes the NAACP, since "it is controlled by Zionists and Communists."
