Eddie Matthews smashed a two-run homer in the tenth inning today for a 7-5 Milwaukee victory over the New York Yankees that squared the World Series at two games each.
Trailing 4-1 with two out and nobody on base in the ninth, the Yankees had bounced back to tie the score on Elston Howard's three-run homer. The Yankees forged ahead in the top of the tenth on Hank Bauer's triple, following an infield single by Tony Kubek.
Braves' pinch hitter Nippy Jones was hit by pitcher Tommy Byrne, and scored the tying run on a double by Johnny Logan. With Logan on base, Matthews then tied the series with his homer into the right-field bleachers.
Tomorrow, cloudy skies are forecast for the fifth game in Milwaukee. Burdette and Ford are likely to be named as the starters for the Braves and Yankees respectively.
