Dean Resigns as Director Of College Charities Drive

William Dean '59 yesterday resigned his directorship of the Combined Charities Drive, his membership on the Student Council, and his post as treasurer of the Harvard Young Democratic Club.

Dean explained, "I am resigning from these positions because of a change in my field of concentration which requires me to do a large amount of additional work." Dean is changing from government to English.

Larry R. Johnson '58, Council President, commented "The failure of members in responsible positions to carry out their duties is most distressing to me. This resignation breaks faith with the Council and with the students it represents."

Currently, the Council is lacking a treasurer and an N.S.A. representative due to the forced resignations of George Wilson '59 and Henri de Bayle '59. A new Combined Charities director will be chosen at next Monday's Council meeting.

At this Monday's meeting, Dean gave no indication of his resignation. Instead he noted that it would be "practically impossible" for him to be defeated for the Council.

David Adamany '58, president of the HYDC, said that he regretted losing Dean and that, "It is a true reflection of Bill's character, however, that he should resign his offices when he felt that he was unable to carry out the responsibilities vested in him."
