United States Asks U.N. Inquiry On Causes of Mid East Tension; Khrushchev Reveals U.S. 'Plot'

UNITED NATIONS, N.Y., Oct. 17--The United States today initiated urgent consultations with other nations on a Middle East U.N. inquiry. This country is anxious for a Middle East debate in order to show "who is really responsible for tension in that area."

At the same time, Aneurin Bevan disclosed in London tonight that Nikita Khrushchev had outlined to him at Yalta on Sept. 16 an alleged four-stage plot by the United States for the Turkish occupation of Syria.

This appeared to be an indication of what lies behind the Soviet party chief's repeated charges that Turkey, under American prodding, is about to attack leftist Syria. The Soviet Union has launched an all-out propaganda campaign clearly designed to blast American influence out of the Middle East.

Nobel Prize to Camus

STOCKHOLM, Oct. 17--French author Albert Camus today won the 1957 Nobel Prize for Literature. At 43, Camus is the youngest to receive the international prize since Rudyard Kipling was chosen in 1907 at 41.
